NRA Wasting Disease a threat to Hunter's Rights

Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America’s oldest civil rights and sportsmen’s group. Four million members strong, NRA continues its mission to uphold Second Amendment rights and to advocate enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation’s leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the military. Hunter’s Rights

Culling the NRA Herd

It appears the present NRA Herd is made of two species. The “hunters rights” breed and the “gun rights” breed.

The “hunters rights” breed consists of organizations of sportsmen, and wild life habitat activists represented by organizations like Wisconsin’s Hunters Rights Coalition and Wisconsin FORCE.

The “gun rights” breed consists of survivalists, end-of-days advocates, and gun for gun’s sake pseudo sportsmen. The agenda, interests, and goals of these two herds couldn’t be more alien of one to the other. They tolerate one another under the umbrella of the 2nd Amendment as defined and described by the NRA.

LaPierre says “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” If that is the case, the “hunters rights” folks are the good guys and the “gun rights” folks is where the bad guys roam. It is time to cull the heard and shed the weak who are undermining goals of real sportsmen and hunters. Yes, real sportsmen who volunteer to train kids to handle fire arms safely, protect wild life habitat, and protect their rights to hunt, trap, and fish.

Not a Loony Lefty

No, I am not a loony lefty of the sort that defines sportsmen as domestic terrorists.

Loony Leftists Want NRA Labeled a “Domestic Terrorist Group”–Over Hunting
Online Petition Wants NRA, RMEF and SCI Declared “Domestic Terrorist Groups”

An online petition is asking the White House to label the National Rifle Association (NRA), Safari Club International (SCI), Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) and other sportsmen’s organizations “domestic terrorist groups.” Blogmocracy

The dividing line separating sportsmen from “gun nuts”

The line is not between the left and right, the GOP and Democrat, neocon and progressive – but between “hunters righters” and “gun righters”. The greatest enemy to the sportsman’s cause is not from the left but from the lurkers in the ranks who are using the powerful umbrella of the NRA, Wisconsin’s Hunters Rights Coalition, and Wisconsin FORCE to their own ends. It is the “gun nut” survivalists who are tapping into many of the resources that could be used for the fire arms training, and habitat development that true sportsmen volunteer and work for.

NRA Executive Vice President LaPierr’s (Most Recent) PR Disaster

The Friday Presser by LaPierre set back the goals of most sportsmen connected to the NRA by leaps. In an atmosphere that is fraught with questions, LaPierre took no questions, and left most people scratching their heads with his proposal of stationing armed sentries in front of every school in America. The idea, concept, plan – is so full of holes that it could not float on salt water. And, the real goals of sportsmen suffer as a result.

LaPierre was the source of other PR disasters, most notably the one that prompted the most well known member of the NRA to resign: George Bush May 3, 1995. In the wake of the the Oklahoma City bombing, LaPierre wrote a fundraising letter describing federal agents as:

“jack-booted government thugs” who wear “Nazi bucket helmets and black storm trooper uniforms.” Former president George Bush was so outraged by the letter that he resigned his lifetime NRA membership.[2] In response to growing criticism, LaPierre apologized, saying that he didn’t intend to “paint all federal law-enforcement officials with the same broad brush. New York Times

The NRA leadership of LaPierre is that of a lobbyist with the goal of selling guns. His allegiance to the gun hunting sportsman is a mere side line. He is not speaking for most gun owners he is speaking for the preservation of the money trail to gun manufacturers.

Is the agenda of the NRA really serving the interests of Sportsmen and Hunters or preserving the interests of gun manufacturers? Time to cull the herd?
